☮️ Caminata de Jóvenes por la Paz, San Juan 5k 🏃🏽‍♂️

05/20/24

Estimados vecinos,

Querido vecino,

Inscríbete aquí para unirte a mi equipo: 26th Ward Walk/Run to Remember.

Jessie Fuentes

To all my running/walking buddies,

June 16th is the annual San Juan 5K at Humboldt Park. It’s also Father’s Day, a tough time for those who have lost their fathers. We’ll be running or walking the 5K to honor and celebrate our fathers' memories. I’ll be remembering my father, Ernesto Álvarez, not just as my dad but as a man who loved Humboldt Park. He cherished the beach, el jardín de flores, and taking us snowboarding down the hill in winter. He supported the Cocineros (food trucks) every weekend. Humboldt Park is also where he watched me marry my wife at the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture. This park holds precious memories and symbolizes the transformative power we both saw in our community.

We will gather for networking and refreshments at the Boathouse after the 5K. Sign up here to join my team: 26th Ward Walk/Run to Remember. All proceeds will go to the “Tu Casa Project” to establish a community center.

From the inception of my tenure, we've strived to foster collaboration and empower our constituents. Through 3 vibrant community committees, 47 dynamic ward nights, and 5 impactful town halls, we've been honored to work hand-in-hand with stakeholders and residents. Together, we've tackled challenges head-on, closing a staggering 18,813 311 requests and championing legislation to uplift our most vulnerable. Our commitment to safety was reaffirmed with the approval of Ceasefire, and we've paved the way for progress with the passage of the Bond Ordinance. Thank you to all who've joined us on this journey. Together, we're building a stronger, more vibrant 26th Ward community!

On Wednesday our office was invited to Senior Exploration Day at Association House. It's absolutely crucial for young people to see representation that reflects their own backgrounds and experiences, especially at events like Senior Exploration Day. When they encounter professionals who look like them and have walked similar paths, it sparks a sense of possibility and potential within them. It breaks down barriers and reinforces the idea that their dreams are valid and achievable. That's why I'm deeply grateful to Association House for hosting my office and other wonderful community organizations at their Senior Exploration Day. A special thank you to Association House for providing this invaluable opportunity to uplift and empower our future leaders.

For those who live in West Chicago Township, you can appeal your taxes at my office today from 10am-5pm. Shout out to Commissioner Anthony Quezada for popping up at my office to help homeowners appeal their property taxes. For an appointment please call (312) 603-3686.

Your 26th Ward Alderperson,

Jessie Fuentes

26th Ward Zoning

The 26th Ward community-driven zoning process requires that anyone requesting a zoning change must first complete a zoning intake form. Once their intake form has been reviewed they are invited to present their zoning request to the 26th Ward Zoning Advisory Committee and must answer additional questions posed by the committee. When applicable, the person requesting a zoning change may also be required to present their zoning request to the broader public during a community input meeting.
