❄️ Gala de Invierno para Mayores, novedades políticas, eventos, empleo y más
Estimados vecinos,
El jueves, me asocié con The People's Lobby, líderes religiosos y defensores de la inmigración para celebrar una conferencia de prensa para discutir la importancia de nuestro compromiso con el estatus de ciudad santuario de Chicago. Junto con los concejales Vásquez, Burnett, Gutiérrez, Hadden, Hall, Manaa-Hoppenworth, Ramírez, Ramírez-Rosa, Robinson, Rodríguez y el senador estatal Robert Peters, pudimos hablar sobre la importancia de la solidaridad negra y marrón para garantizar la seguridad de los solicitantes de asilo, inmigrantes, indocumentados y familias que han sido históricamente privadas de sus derechos. Construir una coalición multirracial para oponerse a la derecha y a las fuerzas nacionalistas blancas es la forma de mantener la seguridad para todos.
También estamos luchando por la Libertad Condicional para Todos, exigiendo que el Presidente Biden cumpla su promesa ofreciendo inmediatamente la libertad condicional y concediendo la libertad condicional en su lugar a los 11 millones de trabajadores indocumentados que viven y trabajan. Esto es absolutamente necesario para los trabajadores indocumentados que trabajan duro, arriesgan sus vidas y pagan impuestos sobre la renta. Conseguimos aprobar la resolución en la Comisión de Derechos de los Inmigrantes y Refugiados, y estamos deseando que se apruebe mañana en el Ayuntamiento.
Sobre la base de nuestro vapor Un salario justo, Alder Ramírez-Rosa y yo nos aventuramos a la costa este con OFW Presidente Saru Jayaraman para reunirse con los patrocinadores de los proyectos de ley en sus respectivos órganos de gobierno. Comenzamos en la cola de la coalición nacional para OFW con una inspiradora representación de la "Historia popular de la industria de la restauración" interpretada por Susan Sarandon, Radha Blank, Russel G. Jones, Staceyann Chin, J. Hoard y Wallace Shawn. A continuación celebramos una rueda de prensa con la senadora del estado de Connecticut y copresidenta del Comité Laboral, Julie Kushner, para hablar del proceso de colaboración para aprobar la OFW. El sábado, siete promotores recorrieron el distrito, llamando a más de 150 puertas y recogiendo más de 75 solicitudes de servicios, demostrando su compromiso de acercar los servicios municipales directamente a los residentes. Los promotores son los trabajadores de divulgación de nuestra oficina con el apoyo de MiJente. Seguirán tocando puertas por todo el distrito durante los próximos tres meses animando a los residentes a solicitar un kit de análisis de agua y a llevar Chicago a casa.
Además, un frente unido de funcionarios electos, líderes comunitarios y figuras religiosas se unieron para Las Posadas en el águila de Logan Square, manifestándose a favor de la vivienda asequible y apoyando la coalición Bring Chicago Home (BCH). BCH busca reestructurar el Impuesto de Transferencia de Bienes Inmuebles (RETT) para generar fondos dedicados a la vivienda asequible permanente, con los votantes decidiendo sobre esta iniciativa el 19 de marzo de 2024. La propuesta implica la disminución de los impuestos para las propiedades de menos de $ 1 millón y el aumento de ellos para las propiedades de más de $ 1 millón. El Distrito 26 apoya plenamente esta iniciativa, haciendo hincapié en la importancia de proporcionar una vivienda digna y segura para todos los residentes, en particular aquellos que experimentan la falta de vivienda. Estuve emocionada de hablar en la Clínica Deportiva Día de Niñas en Juego de Community as a Campus, donde 69 jovencitas de Chase Elementary, Jose de Diego Elementary, Moos Elementary, West Park STEAM Academy, Rowe Elementary y Barreto's Boys and Girls Club. The 26th Ward community-based zoning process requires that anyone requesting a zoning change must first complete a zoning intake form. Once their intake form has been reviewed they will be invited to present their zoning request to the 26th Ward Zoning Advisory Committee and must answer additional questions posed by the committee. When applicable, the person requesting a zoning change may also be required to present their zoning request to the broader public during a community input meeting. Beginning December 1st, if you see a posted sign that says no parking between 3AM and 7AM that means that the winter overnight parking ban is in effect on this street, whether it snows or not. In the 26th Ward, Division Street is effected. Do not park at these locations between 3AM & 7AM from now until April 1st or you will be ticketed and towed. You should also avoid parking here during heavy snow storms when more than 2 inches of snow has fallen. The Emergency Heating Repair Program (EHRP) is a grant program available to income-eligible Chicago homeowners for service to repair or replace their furnace or boiler heating system. Grant funds are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The program is open to Chicagoans who own and occupy a 1-to-4 unit residential property within the city limits. The property must be in habitable condition and not at risk of foreclosure. Commercial and mixed-use properties do not qualify. |
