Neighbors, This week, we took Ward Night to Barreto’s Boys & Girls Club to make sure we’re meeting residents where they are. We were joined by the Chicago Department of Water Management (DWM), who spoke directly with neighbors about the major water main and lead service line replacement work happening in the ward. These infrastructure improvements are critical for delivering safe, clean water to our homes. Residents had the chance to learn about their options for replacing old pipes and see exactly what the current pipes look like and what they would be replaced with. I will continue to inform you on the work being done in our ward. I want to thank the residents who came out, DWM and Barreto’s for hosting us. |

We are upgrading to a grid-based street sweeping system in the 26th Ward. This change means permanent street sweeping signs are beening removed, and instead, you’ll see orange paper notices posted on trees and poles before each scheduled cleaning. This makes cleaning our streets more efficient and effective and easier for residents to know when not to park to avoid parking tickets.
This new grid system is a major improvement over the old method, where the Streets and Sanitation team drove around the ward based on scattered street signage, wasting time driving between locations. Now, with a structured grid approach, crews can clean more efficiently, cover more ground, and keep our streets cleaner. Our Streets and Sans team is already getting a head start on this work. |

Thank you to everyone who joined us on this past Wednesday for the second community meeting on PrimeCare’s proposal for a Community Health Center at 1750 N. Springfield Ave and parking lot at 1748-1756 N. Harding. After questions and concerns were raised in our first meeting last August—particularly around parking, congestion, and program scope— PrimeCare conducted a traffic study and parking analysis before coming back to the table and seeking further input from residents. We deeply appreciate all the residents who took the time to attend and share their feedback and questions. Their engagement is crucial to our community led process. We also want to express our gratitude to PrimeCare for their commitment to supporting our process. If you missed the meeting, you can review the presentation and continue to submit feedback through the end of March at bit.ly/1750feedback. |

The Logan Square Boulevard District is a vital part of our community’s history and identity. On March 6, 2025, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks voted to initiate the consideration process of extending the current historic landmark district to cover Humboldt and Sacramento Boulevards. This effort builds on decades of preservation work and reflects our commitment to protecting the character and stability of our neighborhoods. The designation process typically takes 6 to 9 months, with opportunities for public input. If you own property in the proposed extension area, keep an eye out for notices in the coming weeks. To learn more, review FAQs, or share your thoughts, visit the26thward.org/boulevard-landmarking. |

If you do not know Melissa Quintana, I am surprised. Mel attends as many town halls, community meetings, and pop-ups as possible. She is a loving mother, the founder and president of the Hermosa Belmont-Cragin Chamber of Commerce, and the glue that brings together neighbors who would not normally engage with each other. Once you’ve met Mel, you begin to see the impression she leaves on communities. This is why she was my immediate nominee for recognition of Women’s History Month at City Council. Mel’s vision for Hermosa and Belmont-Cragin is robust - safe spaces for children to call home, racial and opportunity gaps filled, storefronts full of bustling business, and women entrepreneurs supported along the way. Melissa, you are living history, and I am honored to call you a constituent and a colleague. |

Department of Aviation Commissioner Jamie Rhee is retiring this spring, and I could not be more proud of her three decades of service to the City of Chicago. Throughout her career, Jamie has been a relentless champion of women in leadership, of Black and Brown businesses in procurement, and high quality governing within both of our airports. As I mentioned during City Council, I have the utmost respect and gratitude for her husband Mike and daughter Jazelle for sharing Jamie with the entire world. I am also humbled that, despite her retirement, she will continue to call Humboldt Park home. Thank you for your ambition and vision, Commissioner Rhee. |

Boulevard Landmark District Extension Project |
|
 |
The “Logan Square Boulevards District” is a significant part of our community's history and character. An extension of this Landmark District is currently being evaluated. This project builds on decades of historic preservation work and reflects the ongoing commitment of the 26th Ward to maintaining the unique identity of our neighborhoods.
UPDATE: On Thursday, March 6, 2025, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks meeting will consider whether to initiate the consideration process for possible Chicago Landmark designation of an extension to the Logan Square Landmark District on Humboldt and Sacramento Boulevards. The “Logan Square Boulevards District” is a significant part of our community's history and character. An extension would build on decades of historic preservation work and reflect the ongoing commitment of the 26th Ward to encourage sustainable development and safeguard our community’s historic character. You can learn more about the project, review FAQs, and submit your thoughts at: the26thward.org/boulevard-landmarking.
A Commission vote to recommend preliminary landmark status would formally initiate the consideration process. This process typically takes 6 to 9 months and would include communication and notices throughout the process. |

Administrative ICE Warrant VS. Judicial Warrant |
|
🔹 Administrative ICE Warrant (First Image - SAMPLE) Issued by: DHS, not a court. Purpose: Allows ICE to arrest for immigration violations. Limitations: Does not allow entry into your home without consent. Key Detail: Signed by an immigration officer, not a judge.
🔹 Judicial Warrant (Second Image) Issued by: A U.S. District Court. Purpose: Authorizes law enforcement to enter, search, or seize property/individuals. Authority: Signed by a judge, allows entry without consent.
⚠️ Why It Matters: An ICE administrative warrant does not grant officers the right to enter your home—only a judicial warrant does. Always ask to see the warrant, verify details, and seek legal help if needed. For assistance, contact legal professionals or trusted community organizations. |
