West Chicago Township Property Tax Appeal Workshop šŸ”

In this newsletter: 26th Ward Office Updates Ā ā€¢ Resources for Youth ā€¢ Community Events ā€¢ Public NoticesĀ ā€¢ Job OpportunitiesĀ ā€¢Ā

Dear Neighbor,

The most common challenge my office hears about is housing choice, from unhoused neighbors, displaced community members, and homeowners alike. I have been working tirelessly to bring a shelter to the Ward, break ground on affordable housing, and preserve our housing stock.

Another way I support housing initiatives in the 26th Ward is by co-hosting property tax appeal workshops. The West Chicago Township Board of Review appeal window is open, so on Wednesday, September 11 at 5:30pm at Moos Elementary, 1711 N California, my office is co-hosting an appeal workshop.

If you are interested in attending:

  1. Register: https://forms.office.com/g/Lg9QBQqag1

  2. Bring your homeā€™s PIN, property tax bill, and any questions you may have for the analysts

The deadline for filing a West Chicago Township Property Tax Appeal is September 24, 2024.

BIG shout out to Clean Up Give Back and Ward Superintendents Jorge and Alex for partnering with our neighbors to host Saturdayā€™s Humboldt Park Clean Up. It was a huge success! Thank you to everyone, especially Becky, Soni, and PRCCā€™s boxing coach Jordan who brought their young people along.

Finally, congratulations to our very own Humboldt Park Patriots on their Homecoming game on Saturday! We are so fortunate to have coaches and parents who make the program robust and supportive for young people from our community. Thank you for your time, energy, and PATIENCE while caring for the team! If youā€™re interested in attending a Humboldt Park Patriots home game, they will be playing near the batting cage by Division & Kedzie on the following dates:

  • Sat, Sept 14 at 1pm: 11U vs. Hampshire Jr Whippurs

  • Sat, Sept 14 at 2:30pm: 13U vs. Hampshire Jr Whippurs

  • Sat, Oct 5 at 3:30pm: 11U vs. Joliet Steelers

  • Sat, Oct 5 at 5pm: 13U vs. Mokena Youth Athletic Association

In solidarity,

Jessie Fuentes, 26th Ward Alderperson

Museum Pass: Constituent Education Resource Card

We are excited to partner with Museums in the Park this year to provide the 26th Ward with a Constituent Education Resource Card! This card grants the cardholder and three additional guests with general admission to a number of different museums in Chicago. In order to obtain the card, please visit our office to follow the check out procedure. Please note that there is only one card within the ward so it is important to return the card after your museum visit. The program is valid until December 31, 2024.

Join the Call for a New Non-Congregate Shelter

in Humboldt Park!

As the Alderperson of the 26th Ward, I believe it is imperative that we seek compassionate solutions for the issues that affect all residents of the 26th Ward, including our unhoused neighbors in Humboldt Park.

Non-congregate shelters offer safer, more dignified living conditions than congregate shelters by providing individual rooms that grant privacy and autonomy to individuals experiencing homelessness.Ā

By establishing a non-congregate shelter in Humboldt Park, we can address immediate needs while working towards long-term solutions for affordable housing and housing stability. By supporting this community initiative, we can work towards ensuring that all residents have access to safe shelter. Join me by adding your name to this petition if you want the City of Chicago to invest in a non-congregate shelter in Humboldt Park.

26th Ward Zoning

The 26th Ward community-driven zoning process requires that anyone requesting a zoning change must first complete a zoning intake form.Ā Once their intake form has been reviewed they are invited to present their zoning request to the 26th Ward Zoning Advisory Committee and must answer additional questions posed by the committee. When applicable, the person requesting a zoning change may also be required to present their zoning request to the broader public during a community input meeting.

We are currently reviewing zoning change requests forĀ theĀ following properties. You are invited to provide feedback at:Ā the26thward.org/zoning.
