Neighbors, This week reminded me just how powerful it is when neighbors come together, whether we are caring for our pets, cleaning up our parks, or simply opening our doors to connect. This past Saturday, I had the joy of attending Canine Wellness Day with my boy Shadow. I was proud to support this event by sponsoring dog tags and joining incredible community partners who came together to provide free vaccines, microchips, treats, and more. Our pets give us so much love and loyalty, and it was beautiful to see neighbors show up to care for their companions. Thank you to Alderman Burnett for providing the space and to the Lola Foundation for providing all of the professional volunteers! Learn more about them and support their work at www.lolafound.org. |

As we moved from caring for pets to connecting with neighbors at their doors, Ward at Your Door reminded us what truly matters, your voice and your needs. On Sundays and Tuesdays I’m continuing to hit the pavement as part of our Ward at Your Door initiative, walking precinct by precinct across the 26th Ward. My walks have been full of meaningful conversations and powerful reminders of what community looks like. Starting from the west side of the ward, we’ve already connected with hundreds of residents about everything from new garbage bins and rat abatement to parking concerns and city services. This is not just about fixing what needs attention but about ensuring every neighborhood is heard and supported. If you haven't seen us yet, we're on our way to bring Ward services to you. If you have, thank you for opening your door and trusting us to serve your needs. |
Throughout the month we’ve also been celebrating the women and young leaders who uplift our neighborhoods and keep our community moving forward. I’ve been honored to celebrate the accomplishments of so many women. Melissa Rae DuPrey was recognized by Cook County Commissioner Anthony Quezada as an Unsung Heroine, Melissa Quintana was honored during City Council for her relentless approach to helping and growing businesses in Hermosa and Belmont-Cragin, Las Damas celebrated the women and families they serve with a dinner party, at El Schomburg 200 living Puerto Rican womxn artists have one piece of art being displayed and sold for $150 or less. |
With spring around the corner, we are also turning our focus to the parks and green spaces that bring us together. Our upcoming Earth Day Clean-Up in Humboldt Park is one way we care for the places we all share. I am excited for our annual Humboldt Park Earth Day Clean Up on Saturday, April 26. Register here, and meet us at 9am at the Humboldt Park Boathouse, 1400 N Humboldt Drive to pitch in and make our park beautiful for the warmer months. We invite children in grades 1-12 to submit their t-shirt designs! The winner of the contest will be awarded with art supplies, and all volunteers will wear the winning design. Additionally, we welcome the Walt Disney Birthplace Foundation and MANABU Movement Foundation! They will be providing children ages 5-8 and their chaperones with a nature walk near the Humboldt Park Lagoon. This event for our youngest volunteers includes a special shirt, storybook, and coloring activity. If you and your little one are interested in participating, please complete the registration and send an email to marie@the26thward.org. Space is limited.

Boulevard Landmark District Extension Project |
The “Logan Square Boulevards District” is a significant part of our community's history and character. An extension of this Landmark District is currently being considered. This process typically takes 6 to 9 months and includes communication and notices throughout the process. This project builds on decades of historic preservation work and reflects the ongoing commitment of the 26th Ward to encouraging sustainable development and maintaining the unique identity of our neighborhoods. You can learn more about the project, review FAQs, and submit your thoughts at the26thward.org/boulevard-landmarking. |
The 26th Ward's zoning process requires anyone requesting a zoning change to first complete a zoning intake form. After review, they present their request to the Zoning Advisory Committee and answer questions. In some cases, they may also present at a community input meeting. |

Administrative ICE Warrant VS. Judicial Warrant |
🔹 Administrative ICE Warrant (First Image - SAMPLE) Issued by: DHS, not a court. Purpose: Allows ICE to arrest for immigration violations. Limitations: Does not allow entry into your home without consent. Key Detail: Signed by an immigration officer, not a judge.
🔹 Judicial Warrant (Second Image) Issued by: A U.S. District Court. Purpose: Authorizes law enforcement to enter, search, or seize property/individuals. Authority: Signed by a judge, allows entry without consent.
⚠️ Why It Matters: An ICE administrative warrant does not grant officers the right to enter your home—only a judicial warrant does. Always ask to see the warrant, verify details, and seek legal help if needed. For assistance, contact legal professionals or trusted community organizations. |
